PSYCHED TO LEARN is a one page essay I wrote one early May morning (3-5 a.m.) when I was thinking about what "coaching" worked for me when I was setting up the philosophical and psychological foundation for my students (over the last 34 years) on How to Learn. I sent this out to a few of my friends to test the waters, and the response was very positive. One person said he was going to use part of what I said in his commencement address at Central Connecticut State College. My former superintendent encouraged me to publish this. THE PEACEFUL STANDOFF--On April 13, 2006 I joined with several of our church members to head over to Livermore Weapons Lab and participate in a silent demonstration for peace. It was quite different from the protests against Viet Nam in the '60's and '70's. Although I am not a full fledged pacifist at any cost, and a political centrist, I went to this demonstration not knowing what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised, very moved, and wrote a poem to accompany some of the photos I took. I've had a lot of favorable responses, and so I thought I'd share this collage here with you.
